Ice Racing

Postby Deano » Mon Mar 01, 2010 4:37 pm

We've spoke in the past of organizing an Ice race, we now believe we have found a venue that can guarantee cold weather and has a venue for us along with some local racers.

Unfortunately the race is in Finland and we're trying to work out the logistics of getting mowers there. Initially shipping a container seems the logical option, we're after any members who may work in the shipping industry or could potentially provide some help with the logistics.

Please contact dean@blmra.co.uk

Thanks,

My wife is Finnish and we have inlaws and friends in Finland (Soumi) who live a about 50 klicks from Mikkela where the ice race is normally held. I have already tested the ice as it were and could arrange storage and some workshop facilities should it be required and i am sure that some extra accommodation could also be sorted. The missus is fluent in English and Finnish but not petrol head. So other mates could give you a hand with translation if needed.

Hi All, Now i have been watching this post for a while and i really think this could be amazing. I see the problem with getting mowers, spares and tools etc over now i know through expereience shipping containers are expensive and very, very unreliable. But i just looked at a very big map and its about 1600mile trip by road with 4 ferry crossings  , now my thinking was depending on numbers why not drive it? either hire a lorry and do it ourselves or get a quote from a proper Haulage firm? you can get a lot of kit into a artic lorry..........

I really hope it happens! Now we just need to get hold of some ice tyres from somewhere, or none of us will actually move...
